As PA’s oldest grandchild, I’m continuing the trend of ‘PA’s week off’, by writing this week’s post, following in the pen strokes of my cousin John.
PA tells me this is HIS 350th POST!, but he’s worn out from our recent Spring Break visit, so he’s ‘invited’ me to write this one. Apparently, titled “What I learned on Spring Break”, which works.
He’s noticed I’m now a teenager, telling me how irritating teens can be. My reply: “Try dealing with a thousand of them every day at middle school.”
That made PA laugh. I chuckled too.
My family was in St. Simons for 10 days, our friends here for 6 of them.
We all stayed at Queenie and PAs, they clearing out so we could be there alone.
I overheard PA say “Seemed like a good idea at the time”, but they stayed with friends – not like they had to live out of their car.
The friends who stayed with us had never been to St. Simons, which was pretty cool – the chance to show them a place we love.
And they loved it, too.
The weather amazing, lots of stuff to do, and places to eat!
Not to quote PA again, but I’ve heard him talk about how lucky he and Queenie are to live here; the chance for new people to check it out made them say OK to clearing out for a few days.
Again, not like they had to live out of their car…
The week amazing: Beach, mini-golf, basketball on the new hoop, baseball, and food!
There are some great restaurants here, and we sampled them all – or most of them.
But ‘My Editor’ (PA) says I now need to talk about ‘what I learned’ over spring break.
Even if I won’t get school credit…
The joy of friends. It’s hard enough to go on vacation with your family, friends even tougher, but these friends were up to the assignment.
A very ‘easy hang’ as our dad would say. They had 3 children, as do we, the ages matched well, we all got along.
Pretty cool. And copasetic – a PA word. Which sounds like a heart medicine with tough side effects, but PA made me use it. So there.
The joy of discovery. It’s amazing watching your friends appreciate what you appreciate, and that made the trip even better.
They even liked the crappy mini-golf course – it’s vacation, after all.
I’m into the discovery thing, actually eating new foods that amaze my parents; I’m working on my uncle Matt, who only eats 3 of the 12 food groups: Mac and cheese, pasta, and brats/burgers.
The Joy of family. Charlie and Nora are ‘easy hangs’ – most of the time – but they’re OK.
And I’ll admit our parents are relatively cool – please keep that to yourself.
And Queenie and PA ‘easy hangs’ too – it’s fun when we’re here, or they’re at our house.
Please don’t tell them I said that. You know teenagers – we need to remain irritating.
The Joy of SSI/The beach. What’s not to like?
The Joy of ‘easy to impress’ family members. I make breakfast now: scrambled/fried eggs, and pancakes. Apparently that’s a big deal?
But to balance that out, we let the front screen door slam.PA said “Watch the door” – once – but we didn’t. Living up to being ‘irritating’.
The Joy of Love. As John wrote, being with those who love you and you love is pretty special. It made our week even better!
That’s it for me…Hopefully PA will be back at the keyboard next week.
